San Luis Obispo, California: Award-winning singer/pianist and Great American Songbook “ambassador” MICHAEL FEINSTEIN has built a dazzling career over the last three decades, bringing the music of Broadway, the Great American Songbook and popular tunes to the world.

On Friday, January 26, 2018 at 8 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, Cal Poly Arts presents MICHAEL FEINSTEIN SINGS SINATRA, a tribute evening to the musical legacy that is Frank Sinatra.

“I choose songs and material that are well known – and lesser known – to give a sense of the man and his personality,” explains Feinstein. “And the (familiar) songs that I perform … I try to do slightly different from the way Frank Sinatra sang them because nobody did them better than he did.”

Feinstein earned his fifth Grammy Award nomination in 2009 for The Sinatra Project, his CD celebrating the music of “Ol’ Blue Eyes;” The Sinatra Project, Volume II: The Good Life was released in 2011. His Emmy Award-nominated TV special, “Michael Feinstein: The Sinatra Legacy,” was taped live at the Palladium in Carmel, IN and aired across the country.

KCBX host Judy Philbin discussed the Sinatra evening with Feinstein in a recent interview. To listen, click here (The opening discusses Great American Songbook work; Sinatra discussion begins @ 9:00 minutes)

From recordings that have earned him five Grammy Award nominations to his Emmy nominated PBS-TV specials, his acclaimed NPR series, concerts, and his work as the Great American Songbook educator and archivist, Michael Feinstein is clearly one of the most important musical forces of our time.
