Local children and their families are invited to paint, draw, sing and dance with professional artists Sunday, Jan. 21st from noon to 4 p.m. at the Discovery Museum’s 8th Annual Nat Fast Children’s Arts Day, a FREE community event celebrating the arts and the legacy of local artist Nat Fast.
Jan. 13: Science Saturday
Explore local watersheds using a hands-on model with the Santa Maria Utilities Department at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m!
Jan. 14: Nutrition Expedition
Families who come to this free program will get to make a healthy snack with educators from Marian Regional Medical Center and learn about healthy eating and exercise habits from 2 to 4 p.m!
Jan. 16: Tuesday Tales
In this kid-friendly board book, Johnny Ray Moore documents the story of activist Martin Luther King Jr.’s life from childhood to the march on Washington at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m!
Jan. 17: Preschool Patrol
Create a dove out of your very own hand print at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m!
Jan. 18: Passport Thursday
Learn about Martin Luther King Jr. leading the struggle for equality and help make an “I Have a Dream” quilt for the Discovery Museum at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m!
Jan. 18: Brain Builders
Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. we’ll be doing an oldie but goodie, the shiny penny experiment!
Jan 19: Fit Friday
Start the new year off right by centering yourself and trying a “mindfulness meditation.” at 11 a.m and 2:30 p.m!
Science and Arts Supplies for our Creation Station and Maker Lab Needed!
We are always in need of duct tape, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, paint, paint brushes, cotton balls, cardboard tubes and sheets, beads & gems, feathers, paper plates, coffee filters, water color paper, mixed media paper, low-temp glue guns and glue, fabric, yarn (especially thick), crayons, markers, colored pencils and more!
Donating supplies is a fun way to support the Discovery Museum and to help build upon our daily programs and annual events like the FREE Nat Fast Children’s Arts Day. You can bring supplies to the front desk or email firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange pick up.
